We have spent considerable time in development, domestic and international testing of our first two high dependency bathing products having engaged a Sydney based laboratory consulting company. The U.S. tests over a wide age matrix report no sensitivity or allergic reaction.

Given the environment in which high dependency patients and residents reside and the potential for threat to tissue, we feel it critical in providing ‘best practice’ delivery of solutions to tissue in order that skin integrity will not be threatened, morever - will be enhanced, thereby making the patient or resident more comfortable. Equally, the delivery of enhancement in tissue will also result in reduced care costs associated with tissue damage. Bathing times and sponge bath costs are significantly reduced with HiCare™ Bath

The high dependency bathing protocol:

The traditional sponge bath has been in existence for over (150) years- with little change. In an ageing society, we feel that this protocol (the only one until 1994) had/has the potential to introduce a range of threats and issues including:

• Cross contamination (basin and washers)
• Damaged skin resulting from soap residue on skin (high pH) – acid mantle and lipid loss (exposing the skin to bacterial threat)
• Discomfort for the receiver – manual handling risks.
• Huge consumer of nurse bathing time.
• Huge consumer of funds (bathing cost)
• Huge consumer of supplies and services (basin, valuable water, soap, washers, towels, washer and towel laundering and moisturiser)
• Workplace safety risks (lifting, slipping etc)

It is an extremely expensive protocol given the demands for enhancements in care levels in todays’ healthcare environment. (see later)

This is a disposable, complete pre-packaged bathing product for high dependency use. There are two sizes in the product launch phase:

(8) cloth resealable pack (full bath) or

(4) cloth resealable pack (partial bath or post op wash – reduces waste if (8) cloths are not required.
